These companies offer free Internet Call Alerts
-- so you can receive notifications if someone calls you while
you're online. Never miss a call again because you or a family
member is on the Internet!
Call Wave Alert:
Free for 30 days. $17.95 per month after.
This is the basic Call Wave service, allowing users
to see the caller ID of the person calling while they're
online. You can't respond to the calls, or listen to voice
messages. There are no Internet answering machine features.
The service is free for 30 days. After that period, you
must purchase either Call Wave Messenger or Call Wave Connect
to continue using Call Wave Alert for free. Otherwise, it's
$17.95 per month.

Review Guy Says: This plan isn't
worth the expense if you forget to cancel, but it's useful
to get an idea of what Internet call alerts are all about.
AOL
Call Alert:
This is the basic AOL service, allowing users to
see the Caller ID of the person calling while they're online
-- name, number, city, and state. You can choose to take
the call, forward the call to another number, take a message
or ignore the call. You can't respond directly to the calls,
however.

BuzMe
Free: Free (*except Busy
Call Forwarding, which you get through your telephone company.)
When you're online, BuzMe Free shows you who's calling
using an alert window and Caller ID. When a caller dials
you, and your line is busy because you're on the Internet,
they get this message: "You have reached the answering service
for (your name here!) Please hold while I try to locate
the user." You can choose to reply to the call -- with a
text-to-speech message to the caller or ignore the call.
Your text-to-speech message can be pre-written, or
can be written on the fly.
BuzMe also lets you import your contact information
from Microsoft Outlook, so you can put a name to a number!
BuzMe Free uses Busy Call Forwarding provided by
your local telephone company, so you'll have to pay for
that.

Review Guy Says: Very clearly designed
to encourage users to trade up to the paid services, but still
handles the basics very nicely. I like the text-to-speech
features, and that you can write an individual message to
callers.
